Out of School Care & Recreation (OSCAR)

The Trust was set up in 1997 by local parents in need of after school (OSCAR) care for their children. The Centre provides and promotes affordable, accessible, safe, stimulating, quality, fun, community-based, not-for-profit, out of school care and recreation to enrich childhood.

The OSCAR Programmes Co-ordinator is Kerrianne Robinson.

The Centre is an active member of OSCN (Out of School Care Network, Auckland) and the OSCAR Foundation.

OUR PROGRAMME PROVIDES:
  • a safe, caring and enjoyable environment where your child can benefit from the relationships they build out of school
  • a centre that is C.Y.F.S approved and where W.I.N.Z subsidies are available for parent fees
  • experienced and trained staff to supervise and oversee a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities
  • staff that are trained first aiders, and medical staff that are available next door at the Peoples Centre
  • a centre that is an active member of the OSCAR Foundation & OSCN (Out of School Care Network)
  • free bus transport to and from local schools including Papatoetoe North, Mangere East Primary, Sutton Park, Mary MacKillop, Southern Cross Campus & Kura, Kingsford Primary and Kedgley Intermediate
  •  our charter and annual audit on request
  • the centre rules: Play safe, respect each other and, respect each others property

BEFORE SCHOOL CARE

The Before School programme opens at 7:30am, when you will be greeted by our supervisors who have a range of activities set up for the children. At 8:20am it is time to board the bus, and prepare for departure to school.

AFTER SCHOOL CARE

The centre's bus collects the children from pre-arranged safe pick-up points, and staff supervise the run. Papatoetoe North is the first school on the bus route. Then onto our other schools: Sutton Park, Mangere East, Mary McKillop, Southern Cross Campus, Kingsford and Kedgley Intermediate. The children arrive for roll call and a healthy afternoon snack. A range of stimulating supervised activities are set out for the children. The centre closes at 6pm.

HOMEWORK CENTRE

The Homework centre runs 3 days a week. Mon, Weds, and Thurs. The homework centre is not compulsory, unless at your request. Once afternoon tea is over the children are given 15 minutes free-time before they are called in to do their homework. Jogena (homework support coordinator/teacher) helps children with any aspect of their school work.

HOLIDAY PROGRAMME

The holiday programme runs throughout each school term break except for our summer programme, which is during the last week of the holidays. We have the luxury of owning our own buses and a 15 seat transit van, which enables us to spend a lot of our time away from the centre, in the past we have been to Goat Island Reserve and taken a ride on the glass bottom boat, Sheep World (just out of Warkworth), Miranda Hot Springs, Parakai Aquatic Park, Port Waikato Sand Dunes, Gannet Rock and Waitomo Caves just to name a few. Hours: 8.00am to 5.30pm

Early bookings are essential, as these programmes are very popular and spaces are limited

CENTRE INFORMATION HOURS

The centre is opened from Mon-Fri from 7.30am to 6pm. [Administration from 9am - 6pm]
The centre is closed during public holidays and over the Xmas, New year period.
